Listen to Episode 031 with Jill Stanton here:
I used to dread Monday mornings.
I would wake up with a sinking feeling in my stomach, I wouldn't want to get out of bed, and would have anxiety throughout the entire commute to work.
It got to the point where I just couldn't do it anymore.
So, I decided to screw the nine to five.
“What am I gonna do? Go back to work to working for someone else? I’m so past that.”
If you get where I'm coming from, then you have to meet my friends Jill and Josh Stanton.
They believe that you shouldn't just live for the weekend and that you shouldn't only have 2 weeks of vacation per year.
They think you deserve better than that.
I had the pleasure of catching up with Jill (who's also Canadian!) and we chatted about so many different things; from restaurant recommendations in Chiang Mai (Jill and Josh lived here for a year as well), to how they came up with the idea for their blog during their wedding week in Costa Rica, to what life's like when you're business partner is also your life partner.
“The journey is what makes it so magical.”
What I love most about their story is that they never had one big break. They never really knew what "Screw The Nine To Five" would even become.
They just got started and slowly grew with the business as the business grew for itself.
They tried many different things before finding what worked for them.
And, as tempting as it was to try what was working for other people, they realized that they had to focus on what worked for them.
“It never gets easier. You just get better.”
Jill explains how she initially wanted to start a super hands-off business that generated enough passive income every month, that she could retire to a small island in Thailand and lay in a hammock all day.
But, believe it or not, that's no longer the case.
Today, she wants to work harder than ever before to build a movement, create impact and have a noticeable effect on people.
“The most effective entrepreneurs are resourceful. They’ll never let something stop them.”
And, that's exactly what she's doing with her community over at Screw The Nine To Five.
More specifically, on this episode of the Unleash Yourself podcast with Jill Stanton, you’ll learn:
- How your goals change over time and why your goals when you first start will be very different than your goals down the road.
- Why you need to focus on what works best for you, and not worry about what's working for everyone else.
- What it's like to have your life partner as your business parter and how to avoid "divorce days".
- The benefit of a continuity program and why a membership site could be more effective than the launch model.
- How they built over 30 different avenues of income through affiliate marketing.
- Why you should finally put your foot down and screw the nine to five.
