Did you ever consider that maybe the missing piece of the puzzle is YOU?

I'm really excited for this week's episode of the Unleash Yourself Podcast because Tim Matthews opened a lot of doors for me. What I mean by that is that Tim helped me re-shape and re-think a lot of the feelings I was having and helped me overcome some paralyzing limiting beliefs.

The reason why I love Tim's story and message so much is because he focuses within and creates a very safe environment for vulnerability and growth.

Tim created The Powerful Man after a having his awakening and completely changing his life.

The biggest thing Tim's realized is that we all have these unconscious stories that we tell ourselves about what we can or cannot do. Most of the time, these stories hold us back from our true selves and don't allow us to achieve our full potential because they creep up in moments where we are trying to grow and block us from taking action.

"YOU SHOULDN'T ADD FLOORS TO A BUILDING WITH CRUMBING FOUNDATIONS."

Tim has become a master and helping people unleash themselves from these patterns of self-sabotage and negative self-talk and during this interview he shares the 5 step formula to having it all in life.

The thing I love the most is that Tim helps people realize that they have an incredible gift, passion, and innate desire to share it with the world and the only thing that's stopping them from reaching the next level of happiness, income, success, freedom, and impact, is themselves.

"It all starts with you."

It's extremely powerful to have an awakening and realize that you may be your own biggest obstacle because now, all you need to do is to get out of your own way.

MORE SPECIFICALLY, ON THIS EPISODE OF THE UNLEASH YOURSELF PODCAST WITH Tim Matthews, YOU’LL LEARN:

  • Why the missing piece of the puzzle is YOU.
  • How Tim got the idea for fitness4mum.com and what he did to scale his business.
  • Why his business created a lot of stress, struggle, and sacrifice in his life.
  • Why Tim's childhood created a strong subconscious belief of unworthiness which led to him being in the wrong relationship, under-charging his clients, and constantly feeling "at risk".
  • The game-changing decision that led to his awakening and how that led him to take these 5 steps to have it all in his life.
  • Why travelling is fuel for the soul and allows you to achieve peak states.
  • How to have THE conversation you know you need to have (but haven't yet had!) with your partner, friend, or parent because you're afraid.
  • Why working more or trying harder isn't always the answer.
  • How the idea for The Powerful Man came to Tim by starting at a statue of a man and a woman dancing.
  • How Tim made over $280,000 in 5 months with $0 money spent on advertising or marketing...and not even having a website yet.
  • And much, much more.

One of the biggest reasons I love hosting the Unleash Yourself podcast is because I get to chat with some of the best and brightest entrepreneurs on the planet, ask them anything I want, and learn directly from their mistakes, triumphs, and experiences.

This week I had the honour of speaking with Brian D. Evans; Inc. 500 Entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Influencive.com

I loved this interview because Brian agreed to be an open book and allowed me to ask him absolutely anything I wanted. From why the traditional education system didn't work for him, to why he uses his middle initial, and he even gave me behind the scenes look at his morning routine.

"If you can find something you're super passionate about, that you're interested in, there will be other people who are interested in it as well."

Brian has been building businesses in the online space for over 13 years so he's seen and learned a lot by seeing different industries evolve over time.

Today he knows exactly what works, what doesn't, and what every entrepreneur should be doing right now if they want to stand out from the crowd and build a profitable online business.

He's proven it in the past by turning his marketing and advertising agency BDE Ventures into one of Inc. 500's fastest growing companies in America, and he's proven it again today by founding Influencive and turning it into one of the fastest growing media platforms online (while competing with the Huffington Post, Forbes and Entrepreneur).

"It's about creating a group of people that are going to help get your message or post out there because that triggers the algorithm early on. You need a lot of comments and shares early on to click things in place."

You're going to love this interview because Brian shares everything he's done to grow from the feeling stupid as a 3-time college dropout to evolving into a guru behind some of the world's most successful online businesses.

MORE SPECIFICALLY, ON THIS EPISODE OF THE UNLEASH YOURSELF PODCAST WITH Brian D. Evans, YOU’LL LEARN:

  • Why the traditional education system didn't work for Brian, what he did to learn instead and why this is still how he likes to learn new things today.
  • A look at Brian's first online business: selling on eBay.
  • Why being a 3-time college dropout caused Brian to have some limiting beliefs about himself. Learn how to overcome your own psychological barriers with this advice.
  • Whether you should drop out of school to pursue your entrepreneurial vision or dream, or if you should wait until after graduation.
  • The #1 reason why everyone should focus on creating a strong personal brand.
  • How the idea for Influencive.com came about.
  • The elements behind a good piece of content that effortlessly gets a lot of shares, comments and organic engagement.
  • Why coming up with an effective title is one of the most important elements behind a viral post.
  • How to decide which format to use: blog, podcast, or video? (This answer will surprise you!)
  • How to overcome the fear that your business idea has already been done before and why having a lot of competitors is a good thing.
  • Why Brian's morning routine is about constantly trying new routines.
  • And much, much more.

Are you persistent? But like REALLY persistent?

Are you willing to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals?

This week's guest on The Unleash Yourself Podcast is probably one of the most persistent people I know.

Daniel Gefen has gone on an incredible journey before finding himself where he is today (he'll tell you all about it in a minute!) but the most constant and consistent theme of his life is the idea of being persistent.

When he was 5 years old, being persistent got him the chocolate bar he wanted. Later, when he was in his twenties, it got him an offer from a venture capitalist.

"Anytime anybody showed the slightest interest, I called them back. I just kept calling them. If they said "maybe" or "not right now" or "I'll think about it", I just kept calling them back."

I loved chatting with Daniel not only because he's gone through a lot of ups and downs but because he shares them all so honestly and really dives deep into the the reality behind being an entrepreneur.

This is podcast is going to inspire the heck out of you, but not in the way that most other podcasts do. Daniel won't talk about millionaire-type lifestyles or sugar coat what it's like to be an entrepreneur (he even admitted that he was having a pretty crappy day) but he'll show you what's possible if you have an open mind, work hard, and be persistent like no one else around you.

"The only way to overcome fear is to face it, head on."

MORE SPECIFICALLY, ON THIS EPISODE OF THE UNLEASH YOURSELF PODCAST WITH Daniel Gefen, YOU’LL LEARN:

  • Why Daniel's journey as an entrepreneur started with wanting chocolate.
  • Why being persistent is the #1 quality an entrepreneur must to have.
  • What Daniel learned about business by asking his girlfriend to marry him.
  • Why cold calling  prospects and being tenacious and persistent led to an offer from a Venture Capitalist.
  • Daniel's rant about people trying to emulate Tony Robbins and Gary V. and why this stops a lot of people getting started or getting legitimate results.
  • How Daniel negotiated a 6-figure salary in his first ever job.
  • What happened in 2008 when Daniel got let off and suddenly couldn't pay his rent. How he felt having to move in with his in-laws and work for his dad as a cashier, selling milk and eggs.
  • Advice for people who are currently in a job that they hate.
  • How Daniel started his first business and the reality of starting a business from scratch; renting office space, managing staff, chasing invoices, and growing the business.
  • The value of having a mentor and why seeking advice from a trusted mentor helped Daniel make the right decisions in difficult situations when he was emotional and may have made a poor decision otherwise.
  • Why Daniel outsourced his entire business to his competitors.
  • The only way to overcome fear.

057: Lessons Learned Making Millions Playing In The Biggest Poker Cash Games In The World (Featuring Alec Torelli)

Alec-Torelli-Poker

LISTEN TO EPISODE 057 WITH Alec Torelli HERE:

LISTEN, SUBSCRIBE, AND LEAVE A REVIEW ON: ITUNES OR SOUNDCLOUD

I used to play online poker pretty seriously throughout college.

I got into the game in 2006 after the poker boom and quickly became obsessed with learning everything I could about being a profitable poker player.

And, by 2008 I was making a full-time income playing poker online.

If you read this 17-page case study you'll learn how I created and launched my very first online course (which still creates passive income for me today) by packaging my poker knowledge and experience into a digital product.

Yet, if it wasn't for people like Alec Torelli who started playing poker way before it became as mainstream as it is today and paved the way for people like me - I probably wouldn't be where I am.

"I DISCOVERED POKER AT A VERY YOUNG AGE AND I SAW A MASSIVE OPPORTUNITY IN AN INDUSTRY THAT WAS COMPLETELY RAW. LIKE THE WILD WEST. IT WAS A GOLD RUSH. AND, THE TALENT LEVEL WAS LOW SO WITH A MODEST AMOUNT OF WORK I COULD BE BETTER THAN MOST OF THE PEOPLE AROUND ME."

I first connected with Alec over Instagram back in February and we instantly followed each other purely based to how much we saw we had in common with one another. Then, lo and behold, our travels brought us both out to Italy for the summer and we finally got to hang out in person.

I love Alec's story of discovering poker at 16 years old, realizing how passionate he was about the game, and seeing the opportunity to quickly rise through the ranks and become world class.

He shares the details behind some of his biggest wins and allows us to learn from some of his biggest beats...and, I'm not just talking about stuff that happened at the poker table, but in life as well.

"POKER IS ONE OF LIFE'S BEST TEACHERS."

We discuss what it takes to become world class at something that revolves around a specific skill, how to stay cool and make the right decisions when you feel you're on an emotional rollercoaster, and why structure is important when you have a lot of freedom and autonomy in your work.

I'm super excited to share it all with you on this week's episode of The Unleash Yourself Podcast!

MORE SPECIFICALLY, ON THIS EPISODE OF THE UNLEASH YOURSELF PODCAST WITH Alec Torelli, YOU’LL LEARN:

  • Why Alec dropped out of college to pursue playing poker professionally and how he knew it was the right decision.
  • How Alec dealt with the misconceptions around the image of what a poker player is and how he saw it as an opportunity and not an obstacle.
  • How Alec went about learning the skills he needed to become world class at a card game and how anyone can reach an elite level at something that involves a learnable skill.
  • What it's like to play in some of the biggest cash games in the world.
  • Life as one of the best poker players in the world. (Alec made over $1 million dollars in 2007 alone.)
  • How to structure your life in order to succeed and stay ambitious when you're your own boss, have all the freedom and time in the world, and could easily give into temptation to chose fun over work.
  • What happened when the game briefly passed Alec by and he had to move down in stakes because he couldn't win in the biggest games anymore.
  • How to deal with the emotional roller that comes with being a poker player (or an entrepreneur!) and how to keep a level head and make the right decisions no matter what.
  • Why you should force yourself to play against people who are better than you, even if that means you may lose.
  • Read my recent blog post: The 3 biggest entrepreneurial lessons I learned playing online poker professionally.
  • And much, much more!

Have you ever invested a lot of time and money into something, only to realize way down the line that you don't want it anymore?

Did you change path and cut your losses or keep going with it just because of investment you already made toward it?

This week's guest on The Unleash Yourself Podcast graduated from Oxford with a degree in ancient history, only to realize after taking a trip to Peru that he didn't want to become a professor anymore.

Jeremy Ryan Slate wanted to become an entrepreneur so that he could create his own life.

Today Jeremy is the host of the popular podcast Create Your Own Life where he deconstructs some of the highest achievers in business, art, fitness, and more, to uncover an actionable plan for success that will help YOU live life on your own terms.

"I'm creating my own life and at the same time, I'm helping others create their own too."

Starting from the bottom with no podcasting or marketing experience, Jeremy hustled hard. When he launched his first podcast and it flopped, he took a brutally honest look at himself and realized that if he wanted to be successful he needed to act like a professional. From that moment onward he started investing in online courses, taking his podcast more seriously, and putting out high quality episodes 3 times a week.

Can you guess what happened after that?

"You to need to honest with yourself about who you are, where you're starting and what it's going to take, but if you have a big vision then who gives a crap. It's about getting there and all the things you're going to learn on the way there."

His show started getting traction and he slowly scaled his way up to higher level guests and started getting more downloads as a result. Today his show has over 140 5-star reviews and he's interviewed incredible people like Grant Cardone, Hal Elrod, Pat Flynn, Robert Greene, Kelly Starrett, and many more.

MORE SPECIFICALLY, ON THIS EPISODE OF THE UNLEASH YOURSELF PODCAST WITH Jeremy Ryan Slate, YOU’LL LEARN:

  • What Jeremy did after he graduated from Oxford with a degree that he no longer wanted to pursue.
  • Jeremy's experience working in network marketing and what he learned from the industry.
  • Why Jeremy left network marketing and how that allowed him to get to the next level by focusing on what his natural strengths were.
  • How Jeremy got into podcasting and why a trip to Peru helped him get started.
  • Why Jeremy chose the format of podcasting and didn't decide to go into blogging or video.
  • Why his first podcast called Rock Your Life was a complete flop and what he did differently with Create Your Own Life that allowed it to succeed.
  • The #1 reason why Jeremy didn't give up after his first attempt at launching a podcast didn't go as he hoped it would.
  • The exact process Jeremy follows when he creates a podcast that allows him to repurpose each episode into a blog, then a youtube video, then a lead magnet and finally into content for social media.
  • Why publishing 3 episodes per week is the best way to grow your podcast, fast.
  • How to get high level influencers on your podcast like Hal Elrod, Grant Cardone, Pat Flynn, Patrick Bet-David, Tony Horton, Kelly Starett, Robert Greene etc.
  • And much, much more.

If you have a business (or you're trying to build one) and you're not leveraging the power of Instagram to increase leads, traffic, and sales...you're leaving money on the table.

I've experienced it myself: over the past 11 months my Instagram account grew by over 22,000 new followers and I've leveraged that audience to build a profitable online business.

When people message me saying they love the Unleash Yourself podcast and I ask them how they found me...they say: Instagram.

When people opt-in to my email list and I ask them how they find me...they say: Instagram.

And, when people buy my online course and I ask them how they first heard of me...they say Instagram.

The best part is that I'm obviously not the only person who's been able to leverage Instagram to get tangible business results. This week's guest, Sue B. Zimmerman did the same thing and noticed an increase in sales of 40% when she first started using Instagram for her business just a few years ago.

"I LOVE BEING NIMBLE AND MORPHING AND GROWING AND SEIZING OPPORTUNITIES. I ALWAYS HAVE MY PULSE ON THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY. I JUST KNOW WHAT IT IS BEFORE THE REST OF THE WORLD DOES AND THAT'S SORT OF MY SECRET SUPER POWER."

Today, Sue is known as #TheInstagramExpert and this week she sat down with me to discuss some Instagram ninja tricks and secrets to help you find your own success on Instagram.

There's a strategy behind it all and a consistent approach you can learn to implement in every picture you post and every caption you write. Let's all start taking Instagram a little more seriously and turn our accounts into profit producing machines!

"One of my favorite quotes is 'The more you shine the light on others, the more the light shines on you', and I try to do this every day. I don't want this to be all about Sue B. Zimmerman, I want this to be about all the other accounts on Instagram that inspire me."

What's one thing you really wish you could do but the idea of it makes you feel uncomfortable or even a little scared?

For me, it's dancing.

I never used to dance at parties or weddings and just the idea of it was enough to make me nervous.

So, a few months ago I decided to give myself a comfort zone challenge and signed up to private salsa dancing lessons. (I also had some added motivation in the sense that the girl I was in love with, who's now my girlfriend, loved dancing salsa...that always helps!)

My first lesson was frightening. The second a little less. And, after lesson #10, we even went to a salsa party and danced the night away.

Yes, in public.

I love the idea of stepping out of your comfort zone, so this week I invited my friend Kyle Durand on the show because he knows a thing or two about getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Kyle is a business coach who works closely with entrepreneurs in order to help them with confidence building, overcoming perceived limitations, and getting outside their comfort zone.

"Because nothing extraordinary happens within your comfort zone."

Kyle is incredibly inspiring to me and has an amazing story; from being in the US Military and in the US Navy and sleeping in Saddam Hussein's bathtub, to competing on American Ninja Warrior (one of my favorite TV shows!), to being an ultra-endurance athlete who ran over 30 marathons, 5 Ironmans, ran across the grand canyon, and just recently rode his bicycle from Yukon to Mexico.

"I do what I could with what I have. Failure doesn't exist... failure, to me, is not trying."

Today is the one year anniversary of the Unleash Yourself podcast

When I first started podcasting, I honestly didn't even consider the possibility of being in this position and having consistently published a podcast every single week for 52 consecutive weeks.

But now that I'm here, it feels great!

Over the past year, my podcast hit #1 for New and Noteworthy podcasts and was later featured on the front page of iTunes Canada for "What's Hot" next to some of the biggest podcasts in the industry like Lewis Howes' The School Of Greatness, John Lee Dumas' EoFire, Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income, Tim Ferriss' The Tim Ferriss Show, and many more.

Best-Business-Podcasts

Plus, as of this date the podcast has been listened to in 90 different countries, every Canadian province and 49/50 American states (get with the program, Montana!).

As a way of saying thank-you for your continuous support (because without your subscriptions, ratings, and reviews, my show wouldn't be anywhere close to where it is today) I want to give you a vulnerable and honest review of my year.

So, I decided to open up a blog post I wrote a few weeks before the New Year and share it with you.

This is something I wrote with the intent of publishing, but never did due to a myriad of reasons.

It's titled The Year Of Growth and it breaks down my biggest goals for the year.

I haven't looked at this document for a long time but I thought it would be an interesting way to take a look at what's happened over the last year and to see where I was then and where I am today.

I never thought I'd share some of the things I talk about in this podcast, but I think the time is right. I hope you enjoy it.

MORE SPECIFICALLY, ON THIS EPISODE OF THE UNLEASH YOURSELF PODCAST WITH me, YOU’LL LEARN:

  • Celebration of the 1-year anniversary of the Unleash Yourself podcast
  • Some analytics I've never shared before: find out how many countries in the world have listened to my podcast.
  • How the biggest benefit I get from my podcast is not what I thought it would be when I first started out.
  • Why I labeled this year: The Year Of Growth. I reveal a blog post I wrote right before the New Year with some goals for 2016(which I never published). Find out if I achieved them, what changed, and how I've grown.
  • How I surrounded myself with different people and became the best version of myself.
  • The #1 reason why I went to live in Chiang Mai, Thailand. (This has nothing to do with the weather and the beaches in Thailand.)
  • What it's like to live in Chiang Mai: the people, the lifestyle, the expenses, and why I think all people starting a business should consider starting there.
  • Why having an "easy life" was actually detrimental to my ambition, drive, and success.
  • What I did to tame the little negative voice in my head that constantly held me back.
  • My new morning routine and how I feel superhuman by waking up at 5:30am every day.
  • How to be disciplined when you have no rules and how to use it to create confidence, momentum and massive action.
  • How to focus your attention inward by practicing meditation and to stop constantly worrying about what other people think.
  • Why pushing off instant gratification allowed me to feel a higher sense of self-worth.
  • And much, much more.
